A rare late Renaissance, Italian, antique stone fireplace, beautifully patinated by centuries of endless smoking fires. Early and pure examples of Italian Palladian fire surrounds rarely come on to the English market. Early 17th century or perhaps earlier.

With oblong shelf with plain cyma recta moulding above a strong and well carved egg and dart. The frieze centered with an oval medallion of an armorial shaped shield held by C-scrolls. To either side are concave horizontal panels terminating in semicircular flower decorated paterae partial hidden by the fluted blockings above a real and bead moulding which falls down the out grounds of the jambs. The opening framed by egg and dart.
